The homepage lets you run a scan and turn on the VPN and also shortcuts to several not-very-useful system optimisation tools are also available. However, the fact that most of Avast’s other features are buried away within the “Explore” tab can be a bit frustrating.

Installation is straightforward, and you’re not pushed into a free version, although a full scan can detect “advanced issues” that can only be resolved by paying for premium security. It’s a bit shady particularly when the Resolve option takes you to a page that asks you to sign up for Avast’s Premium security plan. Avast also sells user information as revealed in a 2020 article by Which? magazine.
